Jimmy Cao
Associate Director, SW Accountants & Advisors

Jimmy Cao is an Associate Director at SW, with over 20 years of experience in assurance and advisory, including more than a decade at Big 4 firms. His career spans both Singapore and Australia, bringing a diverse and international perspective to his work.

Jimmy now focuses exclusively on consulting, specialising in IFRS advisory, financial reporting, and sustainability reporting. He is the key anchor for SW’s Financial Reporting Webinar series, delivering timely insights and updates to clients on evolving reporting requirements. Internally, Jimmy is responsible for technical accounting training across all staff levels, ensuring consistent capability development within the firm.

He is a member of both Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia, and is a registered company auditor.

Preparing for GPFS Tier 3 Simplified Disclosures 

  • Moving from Special Purpose Financial Statements (SPFS) to General Purpose Financial Statements (GPFS). 
  • Key transition requirements and first-time adoption rules 
  • How Tier 3 differs from Tier 2 / Tier 1 reporting.

The Revenue Masterclass (AASB 15 & AASB 1058) 

  • Deep dive into the 5-step model: identifying "enforceable" contracts and "sufficiently specific" performance obligations. 
  • Practical classification: Which grants are AASB 15 vs. AASB 1058 vs. AASB 1058 Capital Grants. 
  • Interactive Workshop: Reviewing 2–3 actual de-identified grant agreements and mapping out the revenue recognition schedule

Complex NFP Balance Sheet Areas

  • Leases (AASB 16): Accounting for office leases, equipment, and concessionary/peppercorn leases. 
  • Employee Benefits & Provisions: Long service leave discounting, make good, restructuring, and redundancy provisions. 
  • Donated & Volunteer Services: When to recognise, when to disclose, and how to measure fair value.

Regulatory update, Governance Disclosures & Audit Readiness 

  • Key ACNC and other regulatory updates  
  • KMP & Related Party Disclosures: Defining Key Management Personnel in an NFP context and gathering required disclosures. 
  • Audit-Readiness Workshop: An interactive discussion on practical strategies for overcoming resource constraints while maintaining compliance and achieving an efficient and successful audit outcome.
