Thomson Reuters Honoured as Legal Service Provider of the Year

Australasian Law Awards recognises company for third consecutive year

SYDNEY, 22 June 2021 – Thomson Reuters has been selected as the Legal Service Provider of the Year for the third consecutive year at the Australasian Law Awards.

The awards recognise and celebrate excellence in the legal profession. An independent panel of judges applauded Thomson Reuters for providing “significant innovative support during the [COVID-19] crisis,” for the company’s “impressive community focus and accessibility,” and its standing as “a thought leader with a commitment to pro bono.” The judges also cited Thomson Reuters as “the leader in legal technology and knowledge, providing great overall service in a pandemic year when it was most needed.”

The judges further acknowledged Thomson Reuters for its legal operations and business management solution, HighQ, stating, “The acquisition of HighQ is a powerful addition to this critical legal services platform which is proving itself to be a leader with a broad innovative offering that has wide market appeal.”

Jackie Rhodes, managing director, Asia and Emerging Markets for Thomson Reuters, received this year’s award, noting, “It is an honour to be recognised for the value that our people and solutions bring to customers in Australia and New Zealand.

“The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges for the legal profession, requiring lawyers to keep abreast of quick-fire legislative changes, while scrambling to deploy new strategies for collaborating with corporate clients remotely. I am proud of the role that Thomson Reuters played in supporting our customers’ rapidly evolving needs throughout the pandemic.”

Employment Law Solicitor Sharmilla Bargon at Redfern Legal Centre, a beneficiary of Thomson Reuters pro bono program, noted how the program has strengthened and supported her organization’s work.

“We provide disadvantaged and marginalised people in the community with legal advice and representation. Our gratis access to Practical Law and the new Westlaw was invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic in helping us provide high-quality advice to an unprecedented level of requests. In addition to advice work, we regularly use our gratis access to Thomson Reuters services to effectively represent our clients. We’ve achieved some great outcomes.”
