Our Story
On April 17, 2008, Thomson acquired Reuters and we officially became one company - Thomson Reuters – another significant milestone in our company’s long and distinguished history in Australia and New Zealand.
Thanks to the support of our valued customers, our outstanding authors and our talented staff, this year we are celebrating 110 years in legal publishing.

1905 | Published first volume of the Commonwealth Law Reports |
1927 | Launched The Australian Law Journal |
1939 | First edition of Australian Commercial Law |
1964 | Law Book Company merges with Methuen |
1970s | Looseleaf established; 9 new services including McDonald, celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2008 |
1980s | Australian Case Citator established; Australian Digest 3rd series launched |
1987 | Law Book Company acquired by Thomson Corporation |
1989 | Acquisition of CPD (Centre for Professional Development) |
1993 | Laws of Australia published Acquisition of Newsletter Information Services |
1994 | Acquisition of Brookers New Zealand |
1995 | Acquisition of ATP (Australian Tax Practice) |
2001 | Thomson brand established |
2007 | Acquisition of PowerTax, Allume and cvmail |
2008 | Acquisition of Reuters. Thomson Reuters created. |
